What is Human Design?
Human Design System (HDS) was created by Ra Uru Hu (born Alan Krakow in Canada) by combining Astrology, The I Ching, The Chakras, and the Kabbalah. HDS is intended to provide a concrete user guide to our unique genetic methods of communicating, processing, giving and receiving information, emotions, and energy.
Ultimately, the system helps us to align with our natural-born blueprint for decision making, engaging with our environment, and taking action, in order to authentically walk in our purpose with ease.
A unique characteristic of an HD chart is that in addition to your birth date, place and time, it calculates the moment 88 days before you were born, or roughly three months prior. This time is used to determine the traits of your unconscious being while your actual birth time (similar to a natal chart in astrology)is used to illustrate your conscious personality. Search “free human design chart” in Google to get started. You can also use my link here to purchase and read the book on this system, co-written with the creator himself.
How do you read a Human Design Chart?
Step 1: Human Design Centers
The first step in utilizing the Human Design system is to identify your defined and undefined chakra centers. A defined chakra point is one that is filled with color, an undefined center is white or colorless. A center that is defined is where you are fixed and grounded. Your areas of openness and learning needs are the undefined centers.
The head center represents our thinking, inspiration, anxiety and ideas. The ajna center is a point for our awareness and processing information. The throat center rules expression and how we communicate. Our G center will represent our identity. A person’s heart or will center is a motor point which defines their ego and willpower to take action. The sacral center (another motor center) functions as our life force, sexuality, creativity and vitality. The spleen or health center represents our immunity, instincts, consciousness and overall health. Confidence, emotional awareness, self-esteem, creativity and imagination are defined as the Solar plexus center, another motor function. Security, stability, pressure, stress and drive are represented by the base motor center, the root.
In the example below, you can see that the individual is open or needing to learn more in their head, ajna, heart, and solar plexus centers, as these are the colorless undefined points. In these areas, the individual can be very flexible and adaptable, or easily conditioned to adapt to the perspectives of others.
Step 2: Identifying Human Design Types and Strategies
The Human Design System (HDS) groups people into four categories: manifestor, generator, projector, and reflector. In order to successfully, navigate through life and walk in your purpose using the HDS, you must fully embrace your type and the associated strategy. One must also become aware of their aura, signature and not-self theme as to further realize how they receive and impact others.
Manifestor: This type is here to initiate and get things done, independently or with a team. As long they inform others of their plans and practice healthy communication, they will experience the least resistance and achieve with ease. Otherwise, people are intimidated or fearful of their actions and will consciously or subconsciously sabotage and disrupt the manifestor’s plans. Making up only about 8% of the world, these individuals have a huge impact on others.
Best Strategy: To Inform
Not-self Theme: Anger
Aura: Closed off, unapproachable, repelling
Signature: Peace
Generator: This group makes up roughly 70% of the world’s population and is here to create, work and build. There are two subcategories within this group: generator and manifesting generator. The manifesting generator typically works very quickly. Generators or pure generators work gradually to get things done. Both generators are full of life force energy and creativity, and their sacral chakras are clearly defined on their HDS chart. These individuals must wait to respond and allow opportunities to come to them, while using discernment to pursue only that which truly satisfies them.
Best Strategy: To Respond
Not-self Theme: Frustration
Aura: Open
Signature: Satisfaction
Projector: This type is here to observe and tune into their surroundings in order to lead and support others. Projectors make up 20% of the world and they have an undefined Sacral with no motor center connected to the throat center. Projectors are here to provide guidance but only by invitation. They are not here to work, but to lead others who work by tuning into their defined Solar Plexus. Projectors are highly sensitive to energy, can clearly see through people and can often sense when someone is in distress. As long as they wait for an invitation to provide guidance, they will reach success. If not, they will experience bitterness or feelings of depletion.
Best Strategy: By Invitation
Not-self Theme: Bitterness
Aura: Open
Signature: Satisfaction
Reflector: Individuals with all open centers are reflectors and only make up about 1% of the population. These individuals are ultimately here to reflect back the energies of others and their surroundings using sound judgement. Consequently, reflectors have to be very selective about their environments and the company they keep. They are completely open and easily absorb the energy of others. Reflectors succeed and meet the least resistance in life when they align with the moon cycle and wait nearly 28 days to make decisions. There must be absolutely no pressure on this type to decide or take action. Reflectors are able to experience the world through other people’s perspectives and energy. They are able to constantly reinvent themselves and transform as needed. Their purpose is to literally act as a mirror and is often related to highlighting injustices, standing up for people, identifying problems and solutions, providing judgement or evaluations, and righting wrongs.
Best Strategy: Wait 28 days before making decisions; Align with Lunar Cycle
Not-self Theme: Disappointment
Aura: Resistant
Signature: Surprise
